This is the second book in a delightful illustrated series for young readers. It centres around a school for young witches where Ramona Spellstar and the other new recruits are about to start their second term. There’s lots of fun to be had, from scavenger hunts to sleeping in hammocks and from broomstick flying to casting spells with newly-made magic wands. The book tree is an absolute delight too! It’s a lovely outdoor school with lessons taking place in the heart of the forest, nicely referencing the historical interconnectedness of nature and magic.
However, there’s a new student who seems to be causing a lot of trouble… As sparks start to fly and spells cause chaos, will Ramona be able to bring her friends together? The book gently navigates these friendship troubles and reveals how bravado can often mask insecurities. There’s a lovely sense of camaraderie as the children work together and this is an upbeat story about friendship and teamwork.
It’s a beautiful book to read too: black and white illustrations with purple spot colour details, two maps and even a sparkly foiled cover! Wands Away! Spell Class is full of friendship, fun and magic.
