My Dad is a Grizzly Bear by Swapna Haddow & Dapo Adeola

Published by Macmillan Children’s Books, 2020.

My Dad is a Grizzly Bear is such a fabulous picture book: bold, playful and wonderfully heartwarming. The little boy in the story thinks his dad is a grizzly bear. All the signs are there. Dad has the fuzziest fur that scratches and scritches. He is mad about honey and the outdoors. He has the loudest growl (most notably when singing at parties), and loves camping in the woods. He’s also really grumpy when he wakes up, although he does spend a lot of his time sleeping. Most importantly, no-one gives bear hugs like Dad does.

Sam and I love the book’s humour and warmth. The illustrations are incredible – full of personality and energy.

The book has a gorgeous father/son relationship at its core and is a celebration of family life and family love.
