I’m always drawn to a penguin book and this Antarctic-themed board book is a real treat. Each double page spread encourages you to look for an animal.

The creatures are hidden underneath a felt flap. I liked this alternative to the usual cardboard flaps; felt is more robust and it also offers a fun sensory experience for young fingers.

The illustrations are striking with their bold colours and clean lines, and the bright felt is especially appealing. The simple repetitive text means that children quickly get the hang of the book and are soon able to join in. The final page with the mirror is a lovely touch.

Suitable from birth.

Thank you to Nosy Crow for sending me this book to review.

  1. Great review 🙂 Aw, I love the look of this book, and felt flaps are something I haven’t seen before but do sound good for young children. The illustrator/author is one I do enjoy seeing a lot of books of, I just love the shapes and how engaging her artwork always is 🙂
