Animal vs Animal: Who’s the Strongest? is a very accessible non-fiction title suitable for young readers. The book’s format is really engaging: an animal test of strength contest presided over by a raccoon referee. In each round a different pair of animals square off against each other. The 24-page book is part of a new six book Animal vs Animal series published by BookLife.
Key statistics about each animal are presented in easy-to-read fact boxes and the book is illustrated in a cheerful and colourful cartoon-like style. Small photographs of the featured animals are also included.
Children will enjoy being able to compare the different animals according to height, weight and strength (in this respect, there’s a bit of a Top Trumps feel to the book). Kids will also love the well-chosen factual content especially the more stinky facts about dung beetles and musk ox!
As well as being lovely to read at home, the book would also be really valuable in the classroom. It’s pitched perfectly for this age group and has the key text-type features that you’re looking for: sub-headings, a glossary, contents, and an index. There’s even a fun quiz at the end.
A fun and informative new series that will fascinate young readers.
