When by Emma Dodd

Published by Templar, 2011.

When is part of a wonderful series of rhyming books by Emma Dodd that feature baby animals and their parents. In this story, baby bear is sharing his hopes and dreams for the future. He tells daddy bear all that he wants to be when he grows up. Naturally, baby bear wants to grow up to be like his daddy (big and strong, tall, kind and caring) and looks to him as a role model. However, baby bear wants to stay true to himself too. The little bear cub is ambitious; he places no limits on what he hopes to achieve. This gives the book a positive and empowering message: children can grow up to be anything they want to be.

The illustrations are gorgeous. The two bears are shown playing and exploring together: swimming in the lake, catching fish in a stream and walking in the forest.

Full of beautiful pictures and sentiments, this is a lovely book to share with a child.
