Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins

Originally published in 1968. This edition published by Red Fox Books / Random House Children’s Books, 2010.

Rosie the hen goes for a walk around the farm and is back home in her coop in time for dinner. And, if you just read the words, that’s it. However, there is a whole other story in the pictures. This book is a great example of a story where illustrations do so much more than merely accompany the text. You see, all the time that Rosie is on her walk, she is being pursued by a hungry fox. She is blissfully unaware of this, and of the chaos that befalls her would-be predator, and it’s here that the humour lies. Rosie’s Walk is fun and action packed – a great story to read aloud.
