About

An uncanny resemblance!

I’m Rachel, mom to eight-year-old Sam and a primary school class teacher, and I’m passionate about children’s books and about children enjoying books and reading. By writing this blog, I hope to share this passion and to get kids into books.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved books. My childhood was shaped by them and today they are some of my most prized possessions. My favourite lessons are those where I’m sharing a book with the class. Books open up new worlds to us; let us learn more about ourselves and others; fire our imaginations; and make us think, laugh and cry.

Many of the books I review have been generously donated by publishers in return for an honest review. Where this is the case, I thank them at the end of the review.

You can contact me via email: rachelcaddick76@gmail.com.

  1. Hello,
I love to see people writing with passion about children’s books and spreading the word. Would you be willing to review my MG/crossover fantasy, Oy Yew. The book was longlisted for the Times/Chicken House prize. Candy Gourlay named it as one of her 2015 books that deserve to be discovered. You can look inside here http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_6?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=oy+yew&sprefix=oy+yew%2Caps%2C183 Do let me know if you would like a review copy.

  2. Hello,
I am organising a blog tour for Martin Howard. He has a new book out in March with OUP Publishing called ‘The Cosmic Atlas of Alfie Fleet’. It is for the 9 to 11 age range and features illustrations by Chris Mould. Named as one of the books in the Summer Reading Challenge 2019 – Space Chase, it is a hilarious adventure across the universe. Would you be interested in doing a review and author Q&A session with him in March? We would be over the moon if you could consider it. Please let me know and I can arrange a copy of the book to be sent directly to you. Thanks so much for your time.

  5. Dear Rachel, I hope this email finds you well!

I am writing from Cicada Books – a small children’s publisher specialising in highly illustrated fiction and non-fiction titles – to proudly share with you two non-fiction publications released next week which may be of interest to Gets Kids Into Books.

The first, Gut Garden, selected as School Reading List’s non-fiction book of the month (Oct), is an incredible journey into the world of your microbiome. Within our bodies hides an entire world of organisms called microbes. They boost our immune systems, digest our food, regulate our metabolism and even impact on our mental health. Applicable to primary school science curriculums.

Earth-Shattering Events is the second and is an atlas of the most extreme meteorological and geological disasters that nature has to offer. Beautifully illustrated it isn’t your average geography book and explores nature at its most destructive.

Further details of each can be found within the press releases attached and also at our website: www.cicadabooks.co.uk

I would be more than happy to send a copy of each in the post to you if you think they would be suitable to feature within your site.

We are also publishing a third title; Undeground, which is a search and find book of different subway systems from around the world in November. It’s being featured as part of FCBGs National Non-Fiction November list which we’re thrilled about! If you would like to receive an advance copy I can pop this in the post to you in a couple of weeks.

    Many thanks and best wishes,

    Lefki
